New Appointment of Professor in Animal Ethics
22nd December 2006
The Centre’s Director, Professor Andrew Linzey has been appointed the world’s first Professor of Animal Ethics at the Graduate Theological Foundation (GTF) in Indiana, USA. The Chair is named after Henry Bergh, the founder of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) and pioneering animal advocate. Professor Linzey will become a member of the Faculty at the GTF, and Foundation students interested in tailoring a degree with a concentration in the field of Animal Ethics may complete work at the Oxford Centre toward a Doctor of Philosophy degree. Commenting on the appointment, Professor Linzey said: “I am delighted by this honour, but most of all that the subject has been recognized academically in this important way.” For full details of the appointment and how students can study at the GTF, see http://www.gtfeducation.org/html/Announcements.html.
