Fellow Dr Siobhan O’Sullivan joins the ‘Minding Animals’ planning committee

Dr Siobhan O’Sullivan, from the University of Melbourne’s School of Social and Political Sciences, and Associate Fellow of the Oxford Centre for Animal Ethics, is part of the planning committee for the 2009 international academic and community conference on animals and society. Called Minding Animals, the conference will take place in Newcastle, Australia, two hours north of Sydney. Minding Animals will bring together leading scholars from around the world, and will feature many of the Centre’s distinguished Advisers and Fellows, including Professors Robert Garner, Bernard Rollin, Steven M. Wise and Dale Jamieson, to name just a few. Professor Garner will also deliver a pre-conference lecture in London on 5th December, 2008.
As convener of the politics and law streams, Siobhan O’Sullivan is responsible for selecting abstracts, refereeing papers and organising panel discussions, among other official duties. Dr O’Sullivan will also present her own research, which focuses on what justice might mean for animals within the context of a liberal democratic political system.
